“Jaya” is a Hindi name that means “victorious.” It is also another name for Durga—the Hindu goddess that slays obstacles from your path. Her own path has led her to explore a wide variety of spiritual practices, including taking her Bodhisattva vows from the Dalai Lama in 2001.
Jaya philanthropic cause is wild elephant conservation. She is a foster parent of orphaned baby elephants at the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Nairobi. In 2005, she fulfilled a life dream of going on safari to observe African elephants and meet some of her conservationist heroes in Kenya. Upon her return to Northern California, she began writing an elephant related blog called Sacred Elephants. More than just a business matriarch, Jaya's an example of female philanthropic leadership inspired by the callings of her heart.
